The first election after congressional districts are redrawn nearly always shakes up the delegation, and this year that is particularly true with Michigan losing a congressional district as a result of its flagging population.

It's hard to peg Amash, whose votes often bedevil his GOP colleagues. He is as much a Libertarian as he is a Republican and has strong backing from the energetic Ron Paul wing of the party. He is a fanatic about transparency, posting and explaining every vote, and wants to pursue new ideas. He is challenged by Democrat Steve Pestka, a former state lawmaker and judge. Justin Amash should retain his seat.
